I did this yesterday. It is the exact opposite of soft focus. It was an exercise to develop an action for techniques of the past. I shoot with minimal equipment now. In order to sell prints I process to create looks people do not look at and think they can go take that picture with their cellphone. In the past between photography and there was printing with ink. One of the earlier versions was to cut in wood (and other things besides wood) the negative. Then to dip it in ink and make the print. Later this evolved to 4 color lithography (and some used more colors as seen in Currier and Ives prints). When this was done with just one density ink, there was of course no contrast control. So texture was used to create shading. While the action needs refinement, I liked the look of this one. It is not finished. But by accident, this is a print which will actually be sold. I do not put online work I sell and I use an exclusivity agreement and let the buyer do the marketing and I just collect my residuals every 3 months. For the second time this year, I put something online and it was purchased. But I can still put a copy on line this way. So this is the story behind a too busy photo. It does not show well in the smaller size here. If you want to see how it looks, you need to click on it. This was before I removed the grey. The actual print will be on a grey museum rag paper.
