Cannot assign the MF role to a button

Hello Rob.

I follow you every week because your videos are so exceptionally good and clear. Case in point: Olympus OM-D Focus Bracketing and Stacking with Flash Tutorial ep.330 -- you don't just provide the settings or the recipe: you show all the steps for getting there. Pedagogically excellent!

I have an issue: I cannot assign 'MF' to a button on either my OM-D E-M1 miii or my E-M1X.

The setting for MF Clutch (A4) is enabled and the Clucth is set to 'operative'; however, the clutch itself is not physically engaged on the lens. In the Super Control Panel, I am able to select MF for an AF Mode. However, when I try to assign MF to a button, as an available role, it doesn't appear in the list. The list shows AEL, Preview, WB, AF area select, Home and then it jumps to RAW (skipping over MF). Similarly on my E-M1X, it skips over MF to show Test Picture.

Can you think of a setting that I forget and that would disable MF as an available role for button assignment? For example, under D1 you can select available drive modes but what about AF modes?

I'd like to assign MF to the LF-Function on my pro lenses.

Many Tks.
Gil

OK I found it.
I have the Fn lever set to mode 2 as I find this to be more convenient in BIF (Bird in Flight) photography. Unfortunately, I found a note in the E-M1X user's manual regarding limitations of the Fn lever when set to mode2: "The [MF] and [Preset MF] options assigned to controls using [K Button Function] cannot be used.". This warning does not appear in the user manual of the OM-D e-M1 mark iii - which I had been using before switching to the E-M1X. The absence of MF as an available role when Fn is set to mode2 occurs in both cameras although (it seems) only the E-M1X manual warns you about it.
