How to find you dream camera...

Post by Siegfried »

Interesting that reviewers couldn't verify the +2EV noise reduction or +1EV DR. Instead they said we shouldn't trust OMDS. Where does this leave us?

I am working on a new article on how to evaluate digital cameras...

Here are a few points on how to evaluate Image Sensors:-

-Pixels capture Photons and not the size of the backplate they're on
-The Pixel Area decreases as the manufacturer increases the resolution
-Type of CMOS sensor - BSI sensors are optically the more efficient option
-Similarly, MOV sensors are optically more efficient than CMOS sensors
-The difference in the effective pixel area for CMOS and MOV types is big
-A lower level of temporal noise in the noise floor means less image noise
-Older type CMOS sensors have more shot noise than MOV or BSI sensors
-Sensor design, sensitivity, saturation capacity, and SNR determine DR
-Each image sensor has a noise floor - Efficiency, and SNR determines IQ
-Quantum Efficiency or the ability to convert photons to electrons is key

I worked on the above article, stopped, and completed it in a new format.

Here is the link: https://myolympusomd.blogspot.com/2022/ ... heory.html

I added a section on how to test/compare cameras - I kept it basic. I can imagine someone with the right know-how and interest will easily improve the procedures to a more complete and in-depth version... Should one add calculations? Who is the target audience?.

Get yourself a cold beer, take some time and enjoy.
