suggestions for a 'photo' printer, max A3 ( EU / NL )

My father feels the need for a fair to decent photo printer.
I do not expect him to turn out high-end/high-res, but he basically wants to redo/recycle his old photo-books, so they are not lost in future. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Of course, all printers are seemingly capable, but I would like to sift out the real do not buy on forehand.
Based in the Netherlands, could be a pointer, than again, its a global market.
