Experimenting
I know this is not a very good photo. Last year I got an open box 100-300/4-5.6 lens at a good price. Then things closed down and I did not get to use it much and mostly between 100 to 200 to go with my 12-60. Today I thought I would check it out at 300. I was not expecting much as I had once had the 70-300 and knew how soft it was at 300. I am planning to shoot it and see if I can use it enough to justify a 100-400 someday. I have never really shot longer than 400 equivalent for what I do. This is a 1:1 crop (came out 1082 high) at 300. While I can see the limitations with this pixel peeking sized crop, I think I will be happy with the lens and more reasonable crops should look good. I know some other people who are looking at a long lens and thought maybe a crop like this would show them what the 100-300 alternative is capable of and also its limits. I did have to open up the bird 2 stops which shows some noise. It was back lit and I may post a photo in better light which would have a little more detail. Rather than my usual mild sharpening this was sharpened 1.0mp & 80 level just to bring it out a little. Rob's site often here softens up the previews in the post and like all the photos here, you need to click on it to see what is really looks like. F/5.6 @ ISO 200. I am using EM1s (the originals) until I can get me lens again. 20mp sensors would help with what I am trying to do as I would have more pixels after my crops.

Re: Experimenting
Another cropped photo at 300mm which appears slightly back focused. Also at 5.6 but ISO 320.
