M zuiko 75-300mm lens hood

Hi just bought an M Zuiko 75-300mm second hand for 240 euros . He come with the Olympus LH-61E lens hood. This lens hood is massive. Is it really better or can i use a smaller one ?

If you are going to use it, it is better. Photos depend on where the sun or light source is what effect is has or if you even need it. The other thing it is good for is protection. Besides keeping things from hitting the lens, it also can absorb shock if the lens is dropped and save a lens. Basically the more side light a hood can block the better it is and that is the primary purpose of a lens hood. The longer the focal length, the longer the lens without vignetting.

I agree with DeMorcan. I use a long lens hood with my 75-300mm.
