Olympus OM-D EM5 Mark ii external microphone settings

I want to configure my Olympus OM-D EM5 Mark ii to use an external powered clip-on mic (Boya BY-M1), and I haven't had any luck with that; once I plug in the mic I lose sound. I have verified the mic is turned on and it works with my iPhone; I have successfully recorded a voice memo with it on the iPhone. On the Olympus, I have Movie [mic glyph] set to "On", Plug-in Power set to "Off" because the microphone has a battery and is turned on. Under Recording Volume I have "Built-In" = -10 and "MIC [glyph]" = +/-0 but I've had it as high as 8. No matter what, I get no sound, unless I use the camera's internal mic. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

The boya mic has a switch on it to toggle Smartphone or Camera. Make sure it's set to Camera. Let me know if that worked.
