This is part of my off camera flash series. I wanted to give you a couple more examples in real life. Basically, I have my Olympus Pen-F here and it’s set up to take a self-portrait.
For my flash, I had a few comments that people didn’t have the tiny flash that comes with the Pen F and
really I wanted to make this about using off-camera flash for just about any camera system so I’m gonna use radio flash triggers today instead of using the tiny flash that comes with the camera. I’m using a Vello free wave mini flash stand trigger. I really like trigger this because the transmitter is so small. Also, I’m gonna be using my really cheap Neewer NW 610 II speed light. It’s a manual flash I paid like $30 for it online. Right underneath it is the flash trigger receiver and it’s essentially a flash stand.
I’m using my selfie stick with my tabletop tripod to act as a light stand. The flash is maybe about five feet behind the camera. I’m gonna stand about ten feet from the camera and take a picture. I’m gonna
do one with and one without the flash just to show you the difference between the two. Basically, we’re an aperture priority and everything else looks pretty much on auto. ISO auto, white balance auto, and natural color profile 3.
Please watch the video to follow along with me in real time.
Here are some pictures from the video.

Thanks again for another great video that is so helpful. I have a very nice SB 800 speed light that has not been out of its case since I bought it. With your videos along with unit videos on offer I am in business.
I have some nice kit made up of micro 4/3 primes and some nice legacy lenses with my Pen f.
The only limiting factor is me but with the education of your videos I have no excuses.
I am using your set up for focus peeking and exposure highlight view. I have experienced quite high temperatures at the rear of the camera on the right , I have put this down to IC processing within the camera. Have you experienced this to cause you any concerns?
Please keep up with the great videos.
Kind Regards
Michael
I love my SB-800. So much smaller than the SB-26. I haven’t used it in my videos because it’s still expensive, which defeats the point of my cheap flash videos.
My camera gets a bit warm too. I think it’s actually a combination of the load on the battery and all the electronics (cpu, sensor, on camera flash, etc.) – they both get hot. I try not to worry about it, but heat does shorten the life of everything. The only immediate concern might be the noise it creates. As temperatures rise, there is more electronic noise in the circuits and on the sensor, thereby reducing image quality. I learned this from doing astrophotography where noise is a real problem. You may not notice it in general photos, but in critical low light, it is more obvious.
Sincerely,
-Rob
Thanks for the videos Rob. Even though I have a Pentax KS-2, most of your videos can be applied to all cameras. I’ve been able to figure alot of my cameras features by watching your videos. I’m new to photography after a 40 year hiatus.
thanks again,
matt
Thanks for visiting my website and watching my channel. I’ve been meaning to shoot with Pentax and their lenses. Hear lots of great things. I actually have an old Pentax K-10. Don’t have any lenses for it yet.
I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. Olympus is not a popular brand where I live (I don’t know anyone who owns one.) and I find it very helpful when you explain menus and settings. It goes without saying that Olympus menus are complicated. Currently I am working on off camera flash. There is just so much to learn! Please keep up the good work.
Thank you!
