Practicing with Olympus 75-300mm

I went out yesterday in the rain and got lucky! A bald eagle landed about 100 yards in the tree. Here is a comparison of the cropped vs uncropped. Image is straight out of camera jpg.

Showing cropped to 1261×947 pixels vs uncropped. Need to go back when it’s sunny. Olympus E-M5 Mark III, @240mm f/6.7, iso200, 1/25th sec, +1.33 EV, SOOC Jpg.

    Hi Rob

Very lucky to get opportunities like these relatively close. I think good light and correct exposure is key for bird images. But when a your National eagle appears before you just get the shot, as it so easily too late. I am getting my teeth into being able to hold a desired exposure in stills when composing a shot so that the camera does not compensate to a lighter or darker image due to its reconning of what the camera computes the exposure should be for the overall composition; for me tricky to say the least. comp. Great photography of the eagle hope luck is on your side next time and gives you sunshine.

Thanks. I’ve been experimenting with spot hi metering for birds. Give it a try. This shot was simple guesswork adding 1.33 ev.
